Kombucha: Making a Scobie from Scratch

My first attempt at fermenting will be to grow a scoby from scratch. The instructions listed below are from the thatoneguyonline's youtube video linked at the bottom of this post.

Ingredients:

2 Bottles of GT's original kombucha
2 bags of black tea
A little under 1/3 cup of sugar
2 cups of water

Supplies:

6 QT stainless steel pot
1/2 Gallon Glass Jar
Breathable Cloth
Rubber Band
Wooden Spoon

Instructions:

Boil water
Add sugar stir til disolved.
Add 2 bags black tea
Turn off heat and let steep 10-15 min
Remove bags
Add Tea to Jar - allow to cool to room temp
Remove lid from room temp Kombucha bottles
Allow cultures to rise to the top
Pour first half of each bottle into jar.
Cover with Cheese cloth and rubber band.
Check couple of weeks.
