Divine Command Theory

It has been argued by some (Calvinists of the A.W. Pink persuasion), that whatever God does "is good by definition". While I would concede to believe that there is no higher law to which God is subject - I must also believe that the definition of "goodness" flows from his nature, and it is consistent and rational. Otherwise no standard of goodness can exist anywhere.

If this is true, then most of Jesus moral teaching would become invalid. Because we cannot base our idea of "Good" on God. e.g. "Be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect." "If you being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more does your heavenly Father know how to give good gifts to those who ask." "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."
