Sociometry is a research technique developed by
Jacob Moreno which studies the shape of social networks. By asking a few basic questions of each member of a group you can discover the overall shape of a community. The results of this research are often represented by a sociogram, which is basically a map of the communities social network.
I believe sociometric research can provide a valuable tool for church leaders who want to serve their communities better.
By identifying social clusters:
- Pastors can get to know individuals more easily
- Preachers can speak more directly to their audience.
- Churches can easily identify natural leaders
- Churches can identify potential fractures and individuals who are at risk of slipping away.
These are just a few of the benefits off the top of my head. I will be developing this page further, as well as writing blog posts as my research progresses.
